Our mission was to transform a residential rear garden in London, into a secluded, family-orientated retreat. The entire space needed clearing before work began. Despite the space being relatively small, we were able to include a new hardwood shed with a large circular window at the bottom of the winding gravel and brick path. We chose a pretty planting plan; scented roses and herbs such as sweet, feathery fennel were interplanted, creating height and drama. The combination of the purple tones in the slender Verbena bonariensis and Lavandula, set against the deep reds and dark stems of the Astrantia ‘major’ Claret and Peony ‘Buckeye Belle’ and the neat green box balls, continue to create a peaceful retreat throughout the year.
