Our client wanted to keep a mature pear tree in the centre of this neglected garden, behind a newly renovated Victorian townhouse. We were asked to create an urban and contemporary space, including a kitchen garden. Cali designed three areas with little nooks to sit, cook, relax and garden in. Chunky wooden benches with slate tops, combined with a herringbone pathway and a central gravel area created a natural and calming feel to the layout. The planting included a series of beautiful shrubs such as the striking Cornus sanguinea ‘Midwinter Fire’ and Rosa glauca mixed with contemporary grasses such as Calmagrostis ‘Karl Foerster’ and Stipa gigantea. We planted some espaliers in the kitchen garden such as Victoria plum and Cherry Stella combined with several apple varieties.
